Boundary: A Villa That Blends Comfort and Artistic Design

Creating a Tranquil and Open Living Space

Inspired by nature, designer Guangzheng Li has transformed two separate units into a harmonious and spacious villa. The design focuses on openness, privacy, and the integration of indoor and outdoor elements, resulting in a serene and artistic living space.

Boundary, a residential house designed by Guangzheng Li, breaks the boundaries of traditional living spaces. By removing the original movable walls and merging functional areas, the villa offers a new spatial order that ensures sufficient natural light, creating an environmentally friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from white clouds, blue seas, and earth, the design aims to provide a relaxing and meditative environment.

What sets Boundary apart from other designs is its rational thinking and meticulous attention to human comfort. The layout is smart and open, embracing the concept of intelligent living. While maintaining order and functionality, the design injects a sense of peace and stability, expressing quality space in a quiet and artistic manner.

The realization of Boundary involves covering the load-bearing column with ceramic tiles and white latex paint, creating a bright and diverse home line. The clean and simple space is well-defined, with the colors white and blue complementing each other. The overall effect resembles clouds and sea, inviting residents to relax and meditate.

The villa features a unique kitchen division that can switch between open and closed layouts through a thin black frame sliding door and high-permeability glass. The 45-square-meter kitchen space, centered around the island, forms a back-shaped walking line, adding a sense of scale to the design. The openness and flexibility of these spaces foster warm interactions with family life.

Boundary creates a visual pause and rhythm by seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor elements. The design ensures privacy while providing a spacious and bright living space. The smooth and comfortable walking routes, along with the flow of light, contribute to a calm and gentle home environment.

The project began in Anhui, China in December 2018 and was completed in August 2019. Throughout the design process, Guangzheng Li conducted extensive research to ensure the successful merging of two separate villas into one complete villa. Overcoming challenges such as determining the new spatial order and the location of the stairs, the design team planned the space according to the family members' living conditions, habits, and needs.

Boundary has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through the incorporation of art, science, design, and technology.

Boundary, with its blend of comfort, artistic design, and intelligent living concepts, exemplifies the possibilities of creating a tranquil and open living space. It is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in enhancing the quality of life.
